Description
It has been close to 20 years since a worldwide pandemic has ravaged the world. Desperation has hit worldwide as the global economy suffered and infastructure crumbled. The situation in the East has further deteriorated as the pandemic gave way to fringe political groups vying for power. This has resulted in China forming a coalition with other eastern nations, including Russia, in order to consolidate their power and preserve order in the region. With a new Eastern power bloc threatening their allies, a new cold war has begun, with proxy wars and border incursions springing up with increasing frequency, threatening to burn over into total war. Already the great powers of the world are militarizing, conscripting their populations and making use of their stockpiles of surplus weapons, while also trying to gain a technological edge over their enemies.
The situation in Livonia reflects the current climate. The Livonian-Russian border region has, for ten years, been contested by both governments, with Russia committing more troops, who have become younger, using older weapons and less training, to finally take the entire area. The Livonian government further worsened the situation by quarantining their citizens and soldiers in the area when it was found that the Pathogen had made its way into the nation through the border region. The area, thus, has become a no man's land of ruined earth, soldiers-turned-bandits and the fear of a virus.
However, in the past month interest in the border region was rekindled when reports from border guards and quarantined refugees asserted that an influx of scientists and Russian special forces had been collecting the dead in infected villages.
In response, a NATO special task force has been sent into the border region, equipped with CBRN gear and the latest in prototype Western weaponry, with orders to investigate Russian activity in the region, and to hopefully loosen their grip on the region.
